Blacksail Farming Guide
A beginner-friendly way to start earning currency in the Netherrealm without needing an expensive build or specialized Pactspirits. Learn what to unlock, why Memory Scraps are your main target, which maps to rush, and when to reinvest your earnings.
Who this is for: New players moving through early Timemarks, especially around Timemark 7, who need affordable gear upgrades and a repeatable farming strategy. Prices and the best reward choices change during a season, so check your Trade House before committing to a particular drop.
1. What is Blacksail?
Blacksail is a Netherrealm encounter that lets you gather rewards connected to Hero Memories and Void Sea boss encounters. For new players, its appeal is straightforward: you can add it to the maps you are already running instead of waiting until your character is strong enough for expensive endgame farming setups.
For this strategy, your main target is Memory Scraps. When no Scrap option appears, Void Invitations are a useful fallback. These rewards can be sold for Flame Elementium (FE), which you can reinvest in gear.
Beginner principle: Your first goal is consistency. Completing many easy maps and collecting saleable rewards is usually more useful than struggling through a harder Timemark.
2. Setting up Blacksail for the first time
- Finish the campaign and enter the Netherrealm. Continue your Timemark progression until you can clear maps comfortably.
- Open the Void Chart. Find the Blacksail-related nodes and prioritize the route that increases the chance of Blacksail appearing in your maps. The goal is to make encounters reliable rather than occasional.
- Work toward reward-focused nodes. Follow the highlighted reward-focused path in the Blacksail screenshot. Your default goal is Memory Scraps, with Void Invitations as the backup choice.
- Start with ordinary maps. Don't buy expensive Compasses or other enhancements until you know the base strategy is profitable.
- Check the Trade House. Compare the current value of Memory Scraps, Memory Threads, Hero Memories, and invitations before deciding which reward to favor.
The exact number of Void Chart points needed depends on your unlocked progression and chosen route. The next section shows the recommended paths with screenshots.
3. Recommended Void Chart setup
These three constellations work together: Blacksail makes the encounter reliable, Commodities adds another source of saleable drops, and God of War helps you finish maps faster. Follow the illuminated routes shown in the screenshots.
Step 1: Blacksail Constellation — guarantee the encounter
Start with the upper route of the Blacksail tree. This route guarantees Blacksail in your maps, so you can farm it without buying Compasses. Once you can afford Blacksail Compasses, you can remove those guarantee nodes and reallocate the points to other useful constellations.

Step 2: Commodities Constellation — extra FE from Beacons
This setup is used primarily for potential Starshard replication. The reason it pairs well with early Blacksail farming is that Plane Watchers drop Timemark 8 Beacons, which can be sold for additional Flame Elementium. At Timemark 7-2, Plane Watchers always drop two Timemark 8 Beacons, making them a predictable additional reward to collect alongside your Blacksail drops.

Step 3: God of War Constellation — clear maps faster
The highlighted God of War route adds movement speed and damage while clearing maps. Faster clears mean more completed maps and more opportunities to collect Blacksail rewards and Beacon drops. Prioritize this once the Blacksail encounter itself is reliable.

Recommended order: Secure Blacksail encounters first, add Commodities for extra Beacon income, then use God of War to improve map-clear speed. Your available points may require building toward these setups gradually.
4. Boss-rush farming loop
The Blacksail event triggers after you kill the map boss. That makes boss speed the most important part of this farm: reach the boss, defeat it, then complete the Blacksail event and collect your rewards.
- Choose a short, familiar map at a Timemark you can clear quickly and safely.
- Move directly toward the map boss. Skip unnecessary side paths when your only goal is earning FE from Blacksail.
- Defeat the map boss to trigger Blacksail, then defeat the Void Pirates and reveal your Seal Whispers.
- Choose Memory Scraps first. If there is no Scrap option, take a worthwhile Void Invitation selection instead.
- Collect the rewards and repeat. Check Trade House prices periodically and sell your farming drops for FE.
Still need crafting materials or other drops? Full-clearing maps is completely reasonable while you're progressing. The boss-rush approach becomes the priority once your character is established and you are farming specifically for FE.
5. Reward priority: Memory Scraps first
Priority 1: Memory Scraps
Your primary target. Select Memory Scraps whenever they're offered. The aim of this beginner farm is to collect a steady supply of saleable Scraps rather than gamble on occasional high-value rewards.
Priority 2: Void Invitations
Your fallback. If no Memory Scraps are offered, choose a worthwhile Void Invitation reward. Invitations can also be sold for FE.
What changes at Timemark 8?
At Timemark 8, the increased material gains can make an especially strong Void Invitation selection worth taking instead of Memory Scraps. Scraps remain the default target, but compare the size and value of the offered Invitation reward before deciding.
Trade House prices and the relative value of reward selections can change throughout a season. No fixed FE-per-hour return is guaranteed.
6. Recommended free Pact Spirit: Starfish Chanter
Each season provides a free Pact Spirit choice. Starfish Chanter is an excellent option for this Blacksail farm, including for new and free-to-play players.
Starfish Chanter — Level 1 is enough: She gives a 20% chance to double Seal Whispers when they are revealed after defeating the Void Pirates. You do not need to invest heavily in leveling her for this strategy, because the benefit improves very little with additional levels.
That bonus fits the farm directly: more Seal Whispers can mean more opportunities to select the Memory Scraps you're targeting.
7. Best maps for fast Blacksail boss rushing
Because Blacksail happens after the map boss dies, prioritize short routes, predictable boss locations, and layouts that work well with your movement skills. These are recommended options organized by Netherrealm region.
Blistering Lava Sea
- Confession Chapel: A standout all-around choice with a fast, linear path that's ideal for movement-speed-focused farming.
- Twisted Valley: A quick linear or split-path alternative.
- Court of Darkness (TM5+): Two long straight routes work well with movement skills. Multiple bosses can sometimes appear in side paths, making the route less predictable.
Glacial Abyss
- Rainforest of Divine Legacy (TM5+): Very fast and linear when you take the right path after the bridge.
- Defiled Side Chamber (TM7+): A fast, straight-line layout for higher Timemarks.
- Demiman Village: A narrow route well suited to auto-casting or auto-attacking builds that kill enemies as they move.
Steel Forge
- Alleys of the Lost: A quick, direct boss-rush layout, though less ideal when you're hunting multiple bosses.
- Weeping Mines (TM5+): A compact map where boss spawns tend to remain visible on the minimap.
Voidlands
- Filthy Forest: A strong choice for fast Timemark 7 boss rushing thanks to its short route to the boss.
- Dreamless Thicket: A reliable alternative for consistent, fast clears.
Which map should you choose? Start with Confession Chapel if you want a simple, fast route. At Timemark 7, Filthy Forest is another excellent boss-rush option. Your build and movement skills can make a different map faster for you, so favor whichever layout you complete most consistently.
8. When should you upgrade your strategy?
First milestone: steady Timemark 7 clears
Use your first earnings to fix weak gear slots and reach the crafting breakpoint described in the Timemark Guide. Focus on item-level 82–85 gear and practical T2/T3 affixes rather than expensive perfect rolls.
Second milestone: faster maps and better rewards
Once you can farm consistently, compare the cost of Blacksail Compasses against their value. If you can afford to use them regularly, you can remove the guaranteed-encounter nodes in the upper Blacksail tree and spend those points elsewhere. Improving movement speed and boss-kill speed also raises your number of Blacksail encounters per hour.
Third milestone: Timemark 8
When Timemark 8 becomes comfortable, the increased material rewards make especially strong Void Invitation selections more competitive with Memory Scraps. Evaluate each offer rather than choosing Invitations automatically.
9. Common beginner mistakes
- Choosing a Timemark that's too difficult: Slow maps and frequent deaths reduce the amount you earn over time.
- Buying expensive farming materials too early: Learn the basic loop before paying for Compasses.
- Ignoring the Void Chart: Consistent Blacksail encounters are the foundation of the strategy.
- Ignoring Memory Scraps: Scraps are the main target; use Void Invitations as a fallback, or for particularly strong TM8 offers.
- Full-clearing when you only need FE: Blacksail triggers after the map boss. Once you no longer need other materials, rush the boss instead of clearing every corner.
- Overinvesting in Starfish Chanter: Her key farming benefit is available at level 1.
- Trying to perfect gear immediately: Use early profits to make meaningful upgrades that help you farm faster.
Keep progressing
Blacksail is a starting point, not a requirement to stay in one strategy forever. Use it to earn your first currency, upgrade your character, and unlock more options.
